RYA COURSES
In June 2005 we went down to Falmouth with our friend Eve from Erith
Yacht Club to take RYA practical sailing courses. Eve and I did the RYA
Day Skipper and Pam did the RYA Competent Crew. We sailed with Trysail Sailing School.
Here are a few photos from an extremely demanding five days. Little
time to take any more photographs. We all passed
the course!
Here are the three of us on our boat for the course - Saffron of
Kernow, a 29 foot Westerly Konsort.

Pam and Eve making the most of time at the Marina in Falmouth. Boats
everywhere!
All sorts of nationalities and types near the Maritime Museum in
Falmouth.
We practised every manouvre under both sail and power. He we are moored
on a
pontoon up the River Fal.

temporary
mooring lines which is why there are no springs in this photograph!
We arrived here under cover of darkness have navigated from buoy
to buoy using light characteristics alone.
We had to do some theory as well as practical work. Here are Chris, Pam
and Eve relaxing at our anchorage
near the mouth of the Helford River.
Here is a view of some boats moored in Falmouth. Just a few. We had to
practise our tacking and gybing in and out of some of these!

We spent a couple of days at Mevagissey after the course had finished
to relax and recover. A view of the Harbour with Fowey in the far

Eve and Pam
Pam and I visited the Lost Gardens of Heligan on the Saturday while Eve
travelled home to race at Erith Yacht Club on the Sunday. One small
part of the Italian garden.
The birds in the garden are so tame. Many different species came very
close
including Robins and male and female Chaffinches..
