Peak District

In September 2004 we had a long weekend in the Peak District of Derbyshire. We stayed in Crown Cottage, Eyam.

We went on the Cable Car to the Heights of Abraham.

St. David's Festival June 2004

pen

Our primary reason for going to the City of St. David's in Pembrokeshire was to attend the seven day music Festival in the Cathedral. While we were there we could not miss the opportunity to do some walking on the coastal path. The weather was good, except for the Bank Holiday Monday when it rained, and scenery was absolutely stunning.

One day we attended a Sheep Dog demonstration with our friends David & Deidre. After the demonstration they suggested a short walk.

This is where we ended up - 600 feet up after puffing and panting in the hot sun!

organ1

I did have the opportunity during a busy week to play the wonderful Organ in the cathedral thanks to Assistant Organist Simon Pearce and Succentor   Jonathan Lean. The organ was rebuilt from pipework from previous organs and has a wonderful new case.
More information can be found in Organists Review magazine from the IAO
Simon kindly let me have a full hour on the organ so I had time to play some of my favourite pieces including 'Adagio in E' by Frank Bridge. This starts very quietly, builds to full organ and dies away again to whisper. Wonderful!

Us

This picture shows David, Deidre and Pam on the coastal path on the way back from the top of Penberry.

It is mainly to show us in the context of the wonderful view than a group portrait!

Pam and I are fascinated by the different rock strata and all the changes in colour of the cliff faces. It is also especially noticable between the high and low tide marks.

Pam also had a field day (!) studying all the wild flowers that grow here.

We bought a book so that we could find out exactly what is what.

There is so much variety along the Coastal Path.
